ADHD

Let's take a closer look.

Kim's grades were always good but that was because she worked hard every day. It isn't as easy since she began graduate school after getting married last year.  Did you know that on average girls with ADHD aren't diagnosed until age 12 and some not until adulthood.  Those struggles were there earlier for Kim but she worked hard and didn't let it overwhelm her until now.

What can you do as a partner wanting to help instead of escalate the stress level?

-First your partner isn't lazy. Give empathy for what they are experiencing.

-You can understand lacking skills to keep up with the increased demands of graduate school, marriage and work.

What can you do today?

-Help your partner name their feelings and the intensity of those feelings.

-Give empathy for their experience and validate their feelings.

-Brainstorming about possible solutions to help increase communication and lower stress within the relationship. This will allow your partner to get better organized and focused.
